15th-Jun-2010 11:11 pm - Update!
iPod, fun
I know it's been quite some time since I last posted, but I thought I'd share that I finally decided to take the plunge and get an iPhone, leaving the Sprint network with it's high speed and fairly decent service for the wondrous iPhone that is on one of the worst networks in the US. We'll have to wait to see how this turns out.

BTW: the ordering process was horrible. Spending all day, starting at 4AM EST, trying to load up the iPhone section of the online Apple Store web page was horrible. I eventually received a notification that I could configure a reservation for pickup on next Thursday at the retail Apple Store at Somerset in Troy. We'll see how this turns out. I'd hate to spend half of my Friday waiting in line at the mall. X.X

Broken GlassesToday has been a rough day for my health. First, a scratchy throat started me off along the wrong path -exasperated by the moist weather, only to finish with my glasses breaking in half, literally.

I guess it's finally time to bust out the wallet and go visit the Optometrist.
10th-Mar-2010 10:46 pm - are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Blog
I just spent the last hour or so talking with my roommate about topics ranging from our "now ex" partners to our thoughts on religion... We are diametrically opposed on these topics, from how to break up to how to what the basic rational for religion is.

The debate really took off when I started talking about how I dumb it is for him to say the oh-so annoying line "I know a gay guy that might be able to help you find someone." Oh, how I hate it when he gets patronizing about me finding a guy!

All-in-all, I really don't understand his thoughts, but at the same time, he's had much better luck finding partners while I've had much better luck finding peace in my soul with my religious beliefs.
4th-Mar-2010 11:36 pm - Finally, a day off
depression, hal
After all the work that needed to be done over the last two weeks, I have had 0 personal time --including over the weekends, where I had been spending most of my time getting ready for the big server conversion on Monday morning and the fall-out over the next few days.

I arranged for a "decompression day" a day off, for no other reason than to have a day to myself. However, I'm looking for something fun to do. My roommate also has the day off, but I'm sure that he'll be spending his time either working or hanging out with his girlfriend, and most of my other friends will be spending the day at work. I'm curious if anyone has some suggestions on something fun and interesting to do? I'd rather not spend the day inside watching movies and reading books.
23rd-Feb-2010 11:06 pm - NSFWShow
emo
For the past three weeks, I've been engrossed in the new show on the TWIT network (twit.tv), NSFW Show, and have really been looking forward to watching it live at 10p easter time, on Tuesdays.

I just looked at the clock on my dresser, Tues 10:54 PM. I did get into the video stream, however, the video isn't working in linux!

/me Is Not Happy.

I guess I'm just too used to on-demand programming.

(btw: switched to the MacBook for NSFWShow, it's working just fine now)

On a bright side, I just finished watching "School Days" - a very... um, different (??) anime. 4 out of 5 I'd say. Surprising twists!
22nd-Feb-2010 06:58 pm - Snow!
Drive
I have survived the drive to work this morning, after a 5 inches (12 cm) of snow fell in 9 hrs! Poor Jetta, all covered in snow. Yea! For stability control and ABS! :)

BTW: The morning meeting that had me driving in early was canceled. BLARG!
14th-Feb-2010 09:55 pm - Cara Cara!
iPod, fun
cara cara oranges, from WikicommonsI've started to fall in love with Cara Cara oranges! I must say that I love them even more after reading about them on wikipedia: cara cara navel, a hybrid between a regular Naval orange and a Ruby-Red Grapefruit... What a wonderful combination! I'll have to see if this really will replace my usual breakfast special from the deli at work, but it's a nice to have a change in taste every now and then.

BTW: Had a rather nice valentine's for a single guy, spending the day with some friends from my college-town of Owosso! It was very excellent.

23rd-Jul-2009 11:21 pm - ...it's been awhile.
simple things, Book Love
It's been quite sometime since I last updated. I check the friend's list all the flippen' time, but rarely update these days... So I thought I'd take a moment, since I'm having trouble getting to sleep anyway.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend... There is a co-worker's birthday party this weekend, I'm not sure if I'll go... If Tim (roommate/co-worker/long-time friend) does, I'll tag along. Outside of that, I'm not doing anything special, I'm just looking forward to taking some time out to read, and maybe going cycling. I've got a lot of cleaning that needs to be done, maybe Tim is right, and we should consider having someone come over to do some of the general cleaning every week or two.

In regard to readings, I'm in the middle of a new book, "Unweaving the Rainbow" by Richard Dawkins - an argument that Science and Art can co-exist, even though there are some artists that claim that the explanations of science take all the mystery and art out of the world, such as when Newton explained the rainbow as a refraction of light off of thousands/millions of raindrops. At first, it wasn't the easiest read, but it's really starting to flow now. I still have to finish The Algebraist and The Divine Comedy... Not to mention that I'm working on some tech books for work, and the other books I've got stacked up (some partially read, others unopened. ~sigh. So much good stuff to read, so little motivation.
